Quarterbacks

The average NFL Quarterback grades 25% - 35% for a season.

A Grade is anything above 45.000% effectiveness.
B Grade is 35.000% to 44.999% effectiveness.
C Grade is 25.000% to 34.999% effectiveness.

For a career, the average is more like 20.000% to 29.999%.

No Quarterback can score more than 100% effectiveness. The highest grades for any single game are usually in the 80s. For a single game, a Quarterback is acceptable from 20% to 65%, and anything over 65% for a single game is a good game for the Quarterback position. For a season, it is highly unlikely that any Quarterback can score more than 55% effectiveness. 55% for a single season has been topped only 37 times in modern NFL history.

Best Single Seasons (QB)

65.644% - Peyton Manning '04
63.074% - Steve Young '94
62.825% - Tom Brady '07
62.600% - Randall Cunningham '98

Running Backs

The average NFL Running Back grades 2.000 - 2.999 for a season.

A Grade is anything above 4.000.
B Grade is 3.000 to 3.999 effectiveness.
C Grade is 2.000 to 2.999 effectiveness.

For a career, the average is more like 1.500 to 2.499.

To gain 4.000 for a season is difficult, and to maintain that for a career is very difficult. The grade of 5.500 has been topped only 27 times in NFL history for a single season.

Best Single Seasons (RB)

8.632 RB - (2003) O.J. Simpson '73
8.519 RB - (1863) Jim Brown '63

Receivers

The average NFL Wide Receiver grades 20.000 to 39.999 for a season.

A Grade is anything above 70.000.
B Grade is 40.000 to 69.999 effectiveness.
C Grade is 20.000 to 39.999 effectiveness.

For a career, the average is more like 15.000 to 34.999.

To score 70.000 units for a season is difficult, but the receiver is the most explosive of all players. His grade will rise higher with better performance, more so than any other player. For a single game, you could see a huge grade of several hundred units. For a single season, 200 units has been the top tier. The grade of 135.000 units has been topped only 36 times in NFL history for a single season.

NOTE: The spectrum of receiving covers all receivers, but only wide receivers tend to score above 70.000 units. Although some rare Tight Ends and Running Backs can catch passes with Wide Receivers, Tight Ends and Running Backs are usually below 25.000 units, and they are graded separately.

True Worth Studies was begun in 1985 to examine athletic performance. These few examples are of highly capable individuals who played in the NFL. To be sure, it takes talent to play professionally. The talent pool of the players playing at a certain time is something else to consider as well. If your competition is stiff, your performance is also affected.
